On the 23rd October Princes William and Harry came through the eScape Route on the Enduro Africa motorbike ride. Enduro Africa is a motorcycle adventure that is undertaken in aid of four causes - UNICEF, Sentebale (the Princes' fund for Lesotho), the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund and Touch Africa. The princes along with the other riders took on eight greuling days of tough off road riding predominantly on the Wild Coast.
The princes and riders stopped at Old Thomas River for lunch and a break. Michelle (owner of Old Thomas River) served a superb lunch and loads of tea. There Chandre and Tory (both from eScape Route) had photos and chatted with the princes. Prince William was very impressed with the scenic beauty of the Eastern Cape. From there all the riders went to the Engine Museum in Stutterheim to have a look at the pristine antique engines that are on display there.

On Saturday the princes leave the country as Enduro Africa draws to an end. What a wonderful experience to have royalty visit our beautiful our corner of the country.

I have just had, not one of, but THE best mountain biking experience of my life. It took place at Old Thomas River, just over the hill.

Here are some of the reasons why, and these are important to us who like to sweat it out on bicycles in the rough,.

• The route was very varied with challenging climbs, tricky descents, a bog or two, rocky track, grassy field, some good gravel road, sand, narrow winding path, ... It has it all except for busy public roads, concrete sidewalks and unmarked hazards.
• Amazing scenery. It’s one of those races that tempt you into stopping and gawking.

150 years ago, hundreds of German families came to South Africa for the first time to set up farms and build their lives in a new land.

The Amahlathi area is blessed with many talented artists. Some of these local artists will be exhibiting their work in the Lutheran Hall during CraftMania 2008.

Artist exhibiting will include Bev Bauer, Coenraad Strydom, Chandre Mammes and Deborah Wernberg. As well as work by local artists, East London artists will also be displaying their work. Artwork will be displayed to view and for sale.
